Why convert to HID ?

Why put up with lights that are just not bright enough, especially out in the country or in the middle of australia.Have your even thought about upgrading your existing Headlights or Spot lights with HID technology vs higher wattage halogen bulbs?

Disadvantages of higher wattage halogen bulbs

  • Having to replace wiring looms to take increased current.
  • Melting or cracking headlights due to increased heat output.
  • Additional stress on your alternator/battery.
  • Shortening the life of your current bulbs due to heat output.

So what is HID ?

High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting technology replaces the filament of the light bulb with a capsule of gas. The light is emitted from an arc discharge between two closely spaced electrodes hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass tubular envelope capsule. To operate, they require ballasts, which supply proper voltage and control current. The amount of light produced is greater than a standard halogen bulb, while consuming less power, and more closely approximating the colour temperature of natural daylight.

HID lighting has several advantages over conventional halogen lights:

  • More light output. The clear white light produced by the hid bulb is similar to daylight.
  • Research has shown that this enables drivers to concentrate better.
  • It also reflects the road markings and signs better than conventional lighting.
  • The colour temperature of HID lighting more closely approximates the colour temperature of natural daylight than does a halogen system, which appears yellowish in comparison.
